age of aquarius

Interplay of ceramic, bronze glaze, and custom milled black walnut create a bridge between the terrestrial and the cosmic through a star map installation in West Hollywood.

  • This site-specific installation, commissioned by Leslie Ann Wigon Art & Design for the 1 Hotel West Hollywood, serves as a gateway at the hotel’s main entry. Spanning fifteen feet, the work renders the Aquarius constellation in a rhythmic, creating a bridge between the terrestrial and the cosmic.

The piece draws deep inspiration from the dawn of the Age of Aquarius, a transition often associated with a collective shift toward humanitarianism, innovation, and a renewed harmony with the natural world. By placing this star map adjacent to a glass wall on the ground floor, the installation interacts with the shifting California light, grounding the abstract concept into a tactile, physical presence.

  • Handcut and glazed stoneware forms in juxtaposition with custom milled timber reflects a balance of ancient craft and modern design, using materiality to set the mood and carry the form. Utilizing a custom-designed acrylic cleat system, the constellation "floats" away from the wall, allowing the form to breathe and allowing materials to express a weightlessness while being safe for the high traffic area.

  • 180” w x 84” h x 2” d (457.2 cm x 213.4 x 5 cm)
