ReBrick research project redefines the lifecycle of architectural and construction waste. Driven by the philosophy of the circular economy, Kala diverts discarded terracotta bricks from landfills, recognizing them not as debris, but as a potential material embedded with history.

ReBrick interrogates our collective relationship with permanence and disposable culture. This work bridges the gap between industrial salvage and fine art, proving that sustainability does not require a compromise in aesthetic value. Through this intervention, we give new life to old brick, turning the remnants of the built environment into a canvas for new surfaces.

The ReBrick methodology utilizes a precise upcycling workflow designed to minimize carbon footprint while maximizing material utility. The process begins with a wet saw- slicing the post-demolition or discarded structural bricks. These salvaged tiles are thoroughly cleaned and inspected before refiring, significantly reducing the mass and energy required compared to producing new tile.

Using custom screenprinting techniques, hand painting, and stenciling we apply intricate designs directly onto the brick then fire for a permanent, refreshed surface.
